Privacy Policy

1. About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how GreyStream ("GreyStream", "we", "us" or "our") collects and uses information when you use the GreyStream application or related services.

GreyStream aims to collect only information reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve the App.

Privacy contact: info@gogreystream.com

2. Information We May Collect

Depending on how you use GreyStream, we may process:

Purchase and licence information

Payment card details are processed by the applicable payment provider and are not stored by GreyStream.

GreyStream does not store a Bitcoin wallet seed or private key from your wallet. Bitcoin transactions are public on the Bitcoin network and may be visible independently of GreyStream.

Checkout information

When you buy a licence, we ask for and store:

We ask for these because a purchase has to be taxed correctly and recorded as a sale, and because we have to be able to show afterwards which country, and in the United States which state, a sale belonged to. The two country signals are kept separately and are never merged into one: one is what you told us, the other is what your connection suggested.

We do not store your internet address. The connection country reaches us as a two-letter country code and nothing more.

Your receipt address is used to send you the receipt and to answer you about that purchase. It is not added to a mailing list and we do not send marketing to it.

Technical information

Where technically available, we may collect limited information such as:

Support information

If you contact us, we may receive your email address and any information you choose to provide in connection with your support request.

Playlist and configuration information

If you use the companion page to set up a playlist, we store what you enter so that your television and your phone can both read it: server addresses, the username and password for your media provider, M3U and guide addresses, any radio stations you add, and the labels you give them.

This exists for one purpose - keeping your devices in step. Editing on a phone and having the television pick the change up is what it is for, and nothing else uses it.

These details are encrypted before they are stored, and the key that decrypts them is held separately from the database that holds them. See Security below.

We never sell this information and we do not share it, except as needed to perform the checks you ask for - see Third-Party Media Services below.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

GreyStream does not collect, and does not use, any of the following:

None of the items above is sent to us, and none is used to build a profile of what an individual watches.

Error and diagnostic reports are the one exception worth stating plainly: a crash report can incidentally include a fragment of whatever the App was processing at the moment of the fault, such as part of a URL. We do not seek that information, we do not use it for any purpose other than diagnosing the fault, and we work to keep such reports to the minimum information reasonably necessary.

Where technical diagnostics require an identifier, we aim to use the minimum information reasonably necessary.

4. How We Use Information

We may use information to:

5. Third-Party Services

GreyStream may use third-party providers for services including:

Third-party services may process information under their own privacy policies and terms.

BTCPay Server processes invoice and public blockchain information for Bitcoin checkout. It is self-hosted for GreyStream and does not act as Merchant of Record.

Where an authorised Merchant of Record processes a purchase, that provider independently processes information in connection with payment, billing, tax and related services, under its own privacy policy.

6. Third-Party Media Services

GreyStream may connect to media services or sources selected or configured by the user.

Some requests are made by us, on your behalf. Where you ask us to check a playlist, our service contacts that provider using the details you gave, and reports back whether they worked. That is the only request we make on your behalf, and it is made because you asked for it.

Nothing you watch or listen to is routed through us. Live TV, films, series and radio alike are read by your television directly from the source you configured. No media passes through a GreyStream server at any point, which means there is nothing for us to cache, record or log about what you played.

GreyStream does not control the privacy practices of third-party media providers.

You should review the privacy policies of third-party services that you choose to use.

7. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including licence management, customer support, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and legal or accounting requirements.

You can erase your stored details at any time from the companion page. Doing so destroys your playlists, your saved radio stations, your provider credentials and any active sessions.

One thing is deliberately kept: a marker recording that the television existed, when its trial began, and whether a licence was purchased. It holds no playlist, no credentials and nothing about what you watched. It is kept so that erasing your data cannot destroy a licence you have paid for, and cannot be used to restart a free trial repeatedly on the same television. If you want that marker removed as well, write to us at the address in Contact below and we will deal with it, subject to any records we are required to keep.

A completed purchase is the other thing that erasing your details does not reach, and it is worth being plain about. The record of a sale - the receipt, what was paid, the tax, the country and address it was taxed on, and the email address the receipt was sent to - is an accounting record. We are required to keep it for five or ten years after the end of the year of the sale, depending on the country, and we cannot delete it before then, even at your request. It holds nothing about your playlists, your provider credentials or what you watched.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.

In particular: media-provider credentials are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM, and the key is held in the service configuration rather than in the database, so a copy of the database alone does not decrypt them. Your television is identified to us by a value derived from a one-way function, not by a hardware address we could reverse. Session and device tokens are stored hashed, the way a password is, so the stored form cannot be presented back to us as a credential.

No internet-based system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. International Processing

GreyStream and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country in which you live.

Where required, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:
